The Selects folder are where you can move (keyboard shortcut) any finished images that you will want to import into an "Archive" catalogue.
I like any round trip/rendered file to appear alongside the raw. So in this example The folder China 2016 which contains the images becomes the Capture and Output Folder. You do this by putting 2 periods "." in any field that you want to become the target folder: I create a new session that targets the folder that the images are in, so that it becomes the "Capture Folder" in C1 speak.
So I am always using an existing Folder structure. I always create a folder on my HD and copy photos from the SD card to that folder. I never go through the import procedure like I did in LR for 10 years

I'm not a professional photographer and I don't take masses of photographs, 2000-3000 shots in a year on average and then I'd cull those down to the hundreds. My LR/PS plan is up for renewal at the end of this month and I've decided I won't renew and will 'force' myself to use Capture One and hopefully after a month or two it will all be familiar and simpler! My wife has her own LR plan so if I need to merge a panorama (rare) or similar I can do it on that. The latter may be superficial and down to different initial contrast and brightness settings in Capture One compared to LR, but none the less I prefer it. I've also spent many hours over the past year studying PS but have subsequently decided I really do not need the power that PS brings and I prefer the initial 'look' that Capture One gives to LR.
Secondly, how would I add a Session to a Catalog after processing and would it keep the same name etc.?Īs background I've been looking at Capture One on and off for a few years, then always taken the easier option of reverting back to LR Classic (that I know and have used for years). I saw someone post a veru short one short sentence answer (to someone else's question) on a FB forum that basically indicated input raw files as Sessions to process then Catalog to store.įirstly, is this workflow advice accurate and recommended? From what I can tell from my minimal knowledge, with a Catalog the adjustments are in one database whereas with Sessions there's one adjustment for each raw file.
